Congratulations to the latest cohort of 36 talented students—including three of our teachers from NextSense School—who graduated from our Master of Disability Studies program, which we offer through NextSense Institute in affiliation with Macquarie University.
Some graduates travelled from as far as South Australia, Queensland, Victoria and rural NSW to be at the ceremony, which was held at the Macquarie University.
Representing a wide range of professional backgrounds, they chose to specialise in either Education: Deaf and Hard of Hearing; Education: Blindness Low Vision; or Sensory Disability.
The knowledge they acquired has equipped them for specialist roles in the education, allied health and disability sectors. Three teachers from NextSense School were among the cohort.
Many of the graduates faced additional challenges studying during COVID-19 lockdowns and juggling work and life commitments, but appreciated the flexibility offered by this online program.
Graduate Will specialised in Education: Blindness and Low Vision, allowing him to consolidate his skills, collaborate and learn from others.
— Will, GraduateThe Masters has provided me with that specialised knowledge to support kids with blindness and low vision, whether it be braille or assistive technology, and to teach those specific literacy skills they require.
Rassel, who specialised in Education: Deaf and Hard of Hearing, is now qualified as a Teacher of the Deaf.
— Rassel, GraduateBalancing work, life and study was definitely a challenge. Luckily for me I had the support of family and friends and NextSense.
Check out the photos below, featuring those who were able to attend the ceremony in person.
